Frequently Asked Questions

What is your training methodology?

We are considered balanced trainers, which means we use a variety of tools and approaches.

Our methods are based on patience, guidance, fun, and games.

We understand every dog is different, which is why we have numerous tools and techniques in our training programs to make every program as unique as the dog we work with.

Our training goals are to build confidence, bring balance, deepen your bond with your canine, and bring happiness to your home.

Dogs use body language and eye contact to communicate in their natural environment, which we teach you how to understand and use as well. We work with the dog not through the psychology and lens of a human, but through the psychology and lens of a dog because knowing how to communicate with your dog is a crucial part of teaching and training,

**There is a lot of conflicting information out there regarding 'balanced dog training'. If you want more information on our training style, follow us on social media to watch us in action or call us to chat.**

Do you use positive reinforcement?

Yes! We love to use positive reinforcement and value reinforcement based methods. However, we do not limit ourselves to only one method. We build a strong training foundation using all four quadrants of operant conditioning.

Here is a detailed article that provides information on how effective and humane it is to use all four quadrants, rather than limiting yourself to only one quadrant (positive reinforcement).

Follow us on Facebook and/or Instagram to learn more about our training process and see it in action!

What tools do you use to train with?

We are very tool friendly.

As a versatile trainer, I am always open to training with any tool you desire. For reliable results, we will provide suggestions on what tool may work best for your dog. Whether it be a Martingale Collar, Flat Collar, Clip Leash, Prong Collar, Slip Lead, E-Collar (brand matters for E-Collars, we recommend either E-Collar Technologies or Dogtra), Flexi Lead, Muzzle, or Harness, we will go over any tool of interest and show you how to use them correctly and effectively. Food and toys are a huge part of our training programs and we are huge advocates for a species appropriate diet.

What are your hours of operation?

What vaccination records do I need?

We are open from 10am to 5pm Monday to Friday, excluding holidays.

We require a vet certificate for the following vaccines:

- DHLPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus).

- Bordetella (kennel cough).
- Rabies (while not mandatory in some provinces, we do recommend it).

We recommend that you speak with your vet about keeping up to date on all other vaccinations.

*The Rabies tag will not be acceptable for proof of vaccination.

What types of payment do you accept?

We accept either cash or e-transfer.

E-transfers can be sent to lifetimecaninecoaching@gmail.com

What is your refund policy?

For private training programs, we offer a full refund with 7 days’ notice prior to the start of your program. Once a program has started, no refunds will be issued. Cancellations made after the 7-day window but before the program begins may be refunded at our discretion.

Once training has been completed, or equipment has been purchased and used, we do not offer any refunds.

What is your service area?

We proudly serve central Alberta, including Red Deer, Ponoka, Lacombe, Springbrook, Sylvan Lake, Stettler, and surrounding areas for in-person training.

We can also travel outside our standard service area. Please reach out for a customized quote. Pricing will reflect travel time, fuel costs, and any other associated expenses.

Do you offer a training guarantee?

Dog training is a lifestyle. It requires dedication and follow through from the owner. Therefore, it would be unethical for us to guarantee our training if the owner is not committed to continuing the work once our lessons are complete. We DO guarantee we will give you the tools you need to have success with your dog. We DO guarantee you will have our unwavering support until you no longer need us providing you are working the program and doing your best with your training.
